March 14, 2016 (Lanham, MD): Tragically on Sunday March 13, 2016, Officer Jacai Colson, 28, of the Prince George County Police Department was fatally shot in Palmer Park, Maryland, defending his police headquarters and fellow officers. “One of your defenders lost his life in defense of this community today. Those officers did not shrink. They bravely advanced and engaged this individual who was threatening not just the police officers and the police facility that he was opening fire upon but numerous members of the community in the area,” County Police Chief Henry P. Stawinski III said at a news conference on Sunday. Officer Jacai Colson, four-year veteran of the department, was just days shy of his 29th birthday. “Jacai had an infectious smile, he lit up a room,” said Fraternal Order of Police President Zeek Teletchea, who called him a “cop’s cop” and personal friend.

This senseless, unprovoked act of violence against those who protect and serve is unacceptable in a civilized society. The Keith Warren Justice Foundation (TKWJF) expresses our outrage at such a heinous crime on Officer Colson and the Prince George County police department.

We extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Officer Jaci Colson and applaud his bravery in the line of protecting others. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured officer and applaud their service and bravery,” says Sherri Warren, Executive Director of the TKWJF.
